Based on the Japan Society for the Teaching of International Understanding( 2012), the subjects were classified into three categories: “Multicultural Understanding,” “Global Society,” and “Global Issues.” As a result of the comparative study, “Multicultural Understanding” was most used by all six textbooks, and “Global Issues” was used by only two textbooks. “Global Issues” is a subject for a problem-solving approach to international understanding, and the fact that it was covered by all six textbooks indicates that cross-cultural understanding leads to international understanding in junior high school English education.
