However, after the Meiji Restoration, the almost town was　abandoned. Citizens could preserve only the castle's keep and several buildings. Although reclaimed the castle's waterways and Irikawa Canal to develop modern industry at the time, forgetting the old cityscape. When Goichi Takeda designed a new auditorium, city hall, and council building, he set up a building to form a forum. He sought to create a new façade for the city. And he designed a viewpoint to Fukuyama Castle at the roof top of the auditorium.However, in World War II, the bombed cities lost their keep and city hall. Twenty years later, the local governments rebuilt the keep, but ruined the old auditorium. The citizens have forgotten Takeda's dream. In the city's reconstruction plan, the local government built a large transportation plaza in front of Fukuyama station, and then the castle was visible beyond the station. In the mid-1970s, the high rose viaduct of Shinkansen set between the plaza and castle. So, we lost the façade of Fukuyama again. Last year, local governments introduced new restrictions on buildings built near the castle. But the height regulation to protect the urban landscape of Fukuyama Castle does not seem to work.
