| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to examine the significance and method for examining the historical development from the establishment of the epileptic colonies at the end of 19th century to their closure in the latter half of twentieth century. These colonies were the final stage of residential facilities for people with disabilities in the United States. After verifying that there are scant previous researches on the history of the epileptic colony, it is examined that the significance and method of our historical research are valid, and the American colonies for the epileptic are typical as the segregated institution. And, the institutions for the mentally ill and the feebleminded are comparable with the epileptic colonies in social labeling. The annual reports issued by these colonies are good documents for revealing the life run by the epileptic in the colony, and are easily available. | |||||
